What is Laser Hair Removal?
During a laser treatment for hair removal, the area to be treated is cooled, light energy is then delivered in a series of pulses. With a wavelength of 1064 nanometers the light freely floats through the skin to heat the melanin (pigment) of the hair. This heat destroys the hair in its Anagen phase (see
Phases of Growth). The area is cooled again and over the next ten to fourteen days the hair will fall away from the skin in an Exogen manner.
Is it Really Permanent?
Laser hair removal is considered to be a method for long term reduction. It cannot be called permanent removal as the laser is only able to heat hair with an abundance of melanin. Although, lighter coloured hair may be heated enough to retard growth. As light easily floats through skin, it also floats through white, red and very blonde hair. These hairs can then be easily and quickly removed with electrolysis after laser treatments are completed. It is in this manner that Brierley Hair Removal will help you achieve the permanency you desire.
How Long Does it Take?
The number of treatments depends on the size, density and colour of your hair, as well as the area to be treated. Everyone is different, however, most people need 5 to 7 full treatments before moving on to touch up sessions. Touch up sessions do not take as long and therefore the cost of these treatments will be greatly reduced.
How Much Does it Cost?
With laser hair removal treatments you pay per treatment for the area treated. Small areas such as the upper lip will need less pulses than a larger area such as the arms or legs and therefore would cost less. The cost per session gradually decreases as your hair condition clears up and treatment becomes shorter and less frequent.
Is it Safe?
Laser hair removal has only been available to the public for a relatively short period of time. The answer to safety falls with the competence of the operator. As your experienced professional laser hair technician we practice the highest standard of education and hygiene possible. Latex gloves are worn and all other equipment is either disposable or dry heat sterilized to government standards. All sterilizing equipment is spore tested monthly at a local laboratory.
Important Note
Don't be fooled by some marketing strategies. You may end up paying for treatments you don't need with a "package deal" in order to get "free touch ups" you may never use.
