Learn About Electrolysis

What is Electrolysis?

During electrolysis a fine filament (about the same width of a hair) is gently inserted into the hair follicle, a very low electrical current destroys the lower two thirds of the follicle in its Anagen phase (see Phases of Growth under Learn). The probe is then withdrawn and the hair is easily removed resulting in no further growth.

Is It Really Permanent?

To date, Electrolysis is indeed still considered to be the only method of permanently removing unwanted hair.

How Long Does It Take?

The number of treatments depend on the size of the area to be covered, the phases of hair growth, how much hair is to be treated and the tolerance of the client. The frequency of the treatments is also a consideration which will be determined by your Electrologist. Everyone is different and therefore a series of treatments is necessary.

How much does it cost?

With electrolysis you would pay for the time that is necessary to complete a treatment. Small areas such as the upper lip may need 15 minute treatments, however, larger areas such as the arms or legs may need hour treatments. It is important to consider that once treatments are complete, your unwanted hair will be gone for a lifetime.

Is it Safe?

Yes! Electrolysis has been around since the turn of the 1900's. It works and is safe. As your professional Electrologist, Alice Brierley practices the highest infection control and standards of hygiene. Disposable probes are used once only, latex gloves are worn and all other equipment is either disposable or dry heat sterilized as required by government standards. All sterilizing equipment is spore tested monthly at a local laboratory.
